When reality isn't good enough

How do you feel about digital manipulation in photography? Is it inherent or an obstacle?

Changing a photo to make it look better is completely normal but when someone takes a bad photograph and goes all out on trying to add different filters and what not its not necessary and isn't an art in my opinion.
